Apologies for the low light!!
I wasn’t able to make it back during the day to capture daylight footage inside Five Ways Tower, so I know the lighting in this video is a bit rough in places. It’s a shame, because there’s so much eerie detail in there that deserved better light!
If you want to see what it looks like during the day, definitely head over to Brummy Explores on YouTube – his got a great daytime walkthrough that really shows the space in a different way.
Five Ways Tower is an iconic high-rise in Birmingham, UK, known for its distinctive design and long-abandoned presence on the skyline. Vacant since around 2005 due to concerns over asbestos, sick building syndrome, and a decline in interest for office use in that area, the tower has since fallen into a state of disrepair. Broken windows, graffiti, and urban decay now define the structure.
Completed in 1979, the tower stands at approximately 250 feet (76 meters) tall, with 24 storeys, and was designed by Philip Bright of Clifford Tee & Gale. Its striking hexagonal shape and stark architecture have occasionally made it the backdrop for photo shoots, indie films, and TV scenes, often chosen for its gritty or post-apocalyptic vibe.
Over the years, there have been multiple proposals to either renovate, convert, or completely demolish and redevelop the site. Suggestions have ranged from turning it into residential flats to building new towers altogether.
In conversation with on-site security, it was revealed that demolition work began in 2024, starting with the removal of the car park—which was the main access point for urban explorers. With this gone, it has become much harder to sneak in… but as security knows, we never give up that easily! Further demolition is scheduled to continue soon, marking the end of an era for one of Birmingham’s most curious and hauntingly fascinating buildings.
