Inside Stapleford Park | The 500-Year-Old Estate Left Behind

Stapleford Park has stood for more than 500 years.

From its beginnings as a grand country estate to its transformation into a luxury country-house hotel, generations of people have lived, worked and stayed within these walls.

But in 2024, the hotel closed its doors.

In this documentary-style Dee Explores, we step inside Stapleford Park Country House & Estate to uncover what remains. We explore the grand reception rooms, dining areas, taxidermy, themed bedrooms, hidden staff areas, swimming pool and even make our way onto the roof. Along the way, we uncover the history of the estate, the Sherard family, the influence of Capability Brown and the later transformation of Stapleford Park into a luxury hotel.

Some discoveries raise more questions than answers — including what we believe could be part of the original 1670s roof. We couldn’t find enough evidence to confirm this, so we leave that one open for discussion. This isn’t just an abandoned hotel. It’s more than 500 years of history. This is Stapleford Park. Welcome to the new documentary-style Dee Explores. T
