In this week’s explore we’re taking you inside Newbury’s abandoned Lakeside Bowling Alley and Soft Play. Once a busy family entertainment centre packed with bowling, birthday parties, arcade games and children’s play areas, today it’s been left to decay, with nature and time slowly taking over.
Lakeside was a place many local families will remember. For years it was somewhere people came to celebrate birthdays, spend weekends with friends and enjoy a game of bowling. Like many older leisure venues across the UK, changing times and increasing competition eventually saw the building close its doors, leaving everything behind as a reminder of what it once was.
As we explore what’s left, we uncover abandoned bowling lanes, the forgotten soft play, old party rooms and plenty of items still scattered throughout the building. It’s amazing to see just how much has been left behind and how quickly nature has started reclaiming the place.
The explore doesn’t quite go to plan though. Part way through we’re caught up in an unexpected encounter with the police. What happened next? You’ll have to watch until the end to find out.
